Tsubasa movie
So the animation was a lot better than the TV series by Bee Train. There was actually good timing and action instead of lots of people standing around with exciting music. The character design looked better too.
Um, maybe spoilers in the next bit.
But what on Earth was going on with the plot?! It started off well, but things seemed a bit too rushed at the end. It was liked they'd scripted an hour long movie and then tried to squeze it into half an hour.
I have to say I didn't really understand what was going on most of the time, I thought things would be explained nearer the end, but they weren't. What was all the steam about? Why was the King controlling the water? Why create a land of darkness? Why are they all in a cage?! Why is Tomoyo some kind of super magic key?? *shakes head* Maybe I should watch it again.
The ending was a little laughable, what with super flying Syaoran and the super magic ring!
I really thought there'd be more closure too, like them giving Sakura back her feather and the gang flying off. I really do think this movie would have done better with an extra half an hour to get through the story.
Aw, but the bit at the very end with the little boy's bird flying off was quite cute.
Other things of note:
- I would have liked to see some music other than that from the TV series.
- Syaoran had different eyes, which was weird, but quite good.
- There wasn't enough Fay, or Kurogane, but did they really have to save the day so easily when they finally got out of their cages?
- Let's ride in barrels smacked of The Hobbit a bit.
Conclusion: the plot is little to write home about, but, oh, I wish they could animate the TV series like this.
